Ryan, a self-proclaimed book lover who relishes the feel of real pages (and the smell—don’t forget the smell!), is also a proud furparent to Yoshi, a beagle who’s had one too many treats. Despite holding an Accountancy degree he never really used (yes, he’s the odd one out here), Ryan once thought club strobe lights were perfect for studying for major exams. Now, he’s swapped dance floors for cozy evenings with his beagle, a good book, and the intoxicating scent of rain-soaked earth.

Though some might call him “old,” Ryan begs to differ—there’s still too much life to live and plenty to marvel at, including his knack for ignoring Yoshi’s non-stop snack requests.

Ryan hopes to spend his remaining days with his brother, his favorite human, who tolerates his quirks and shares his love for the quiet—mostly because Yoshi hogs all the excitement.

THE SIMPLE FINANCIALS STORY

I grew up in a very poor and chaotic family where the electricity or gas was often turned off because my parents couldn’t pay the utility bills. Determined to make something more of myself, I worked minimum-wage jobs doing everything from washing dishes and mowing lawns to being a busboy at IHOP. Almost dropping out of high school, I sought stability and structure by joining the Army at 17. After serving just over three years on active duty as a Military Police officer, including a year and a half in Iraq, I decided to pursue a college degree. Starting at STLCC, I earned a full-tuition scholarship to Washington University in St. Louis, where I studied Environmental Studies and Biology before completing a Master’s Degree in Engineering.

After a few years in the corporate world, I discovered my true passion was entrepreneurship. Over the past decade and a half, I’ve launched several companies while building a loving family with my wife and four kids. Though all but three of my companies failed, the successes now generate over $3 million in annual revenue. I’ve acquired four companies and am currently working on my fifth. I’ve also helped buyers and sellers navigate 28 business acquisitions, primarily assisting owners in selling their companies but also working on the buy side.

A pivotal lesson I learned as a business owner was the frustration of finding quality and affordable financial advice. I went through nearly a dozen bookkeepers, accountants, and CPA firms before realizing my books were still a mess, and I lacked the financial clarity to make strategic decisions. That’s when I took matters into my own hands, diving deep into bookkeeping, accounting, and financial strategy. I became a QuickBooks Online Certified ProAdvisor and, more recently, an Enrolled Agent, federally licensed by the U.S. Department of the Treasury to represent taxpayers before the IRS in audits, collections, and appeals. This credential also allows me to prepare and file tax returns, provide tax planning advice, and negotiate resolutions with the IRS.

At Simple Financials, we are a CFO-focused bookkeeping, accounting, and tax firm. Our mission is to optimize and streamline our clients’ bookkeeping systems to deliver precise, real-time financial insights. By automating and perfecting financial processes, we empower small business owners with the clarity and tools needed to make informed decisions and grow their businesses confidently.

We understand at a deeper level the pressures, fears, and triumphs of being a small business owner. We exist to eradicate the uncertainty and stress that many small business owners feel about their company’s accounting and finances.
